If you are thinking of putting your home on the market in the near future, now is the time to take a careful look at the inside of your home. Here’s what you should know…most buyers have high expectations! They want a home that is close to perfect at a good price.
Do you have wallpaper on your walls? In all the hundreds of homes I have shown to prospective buyers, I have never once heard a buyer say, “Ugh, all that paint on the walls! I’ll have to cover it all with wallpaper!” The viewpoint is quite the opposite. Most buyers see wallpaper on walls as something they immediately will need to take down. They see it as a lot of work and immediately start taking value off the property in their minds.
Although there are many nice wallpaper colors, textures and designs – they are all very subjective. They appeal to certain people and not others. It may be what you like to see on your walls while you live in the home. However, when you are thinking of selling your home, it’s important to go for a look that will appeal to as many people as possible.
Consider a fresh, neutral coat of paint throughout your home. A light tan or light gray color, even off-white, will appeal to most people. You may crave a more vibrant look – bright reds, oranges, blues – or dark olive, brown and pewter colors. When you get to your new home, you can let the colors run wild! If you want to increase the perceived value of your home when preparing to sell it, please opt for a wallpaper-free, light neutral look. You’ll be glad you did!
